Ez az élet (Arany János)

Ez az élet egy tivornya:
Inni kell, ha rád jön sorja,
Az örömböl, búbánatból,
Karcsos borbol, kéj-zamatból.
Kivel egykor én mulattam,
Többnyiré már pad alatt van,
És én, ki a mámort kerültem,
Helyt maradék, hol leültem.
De, ha végignézek romján:
Oly sivár, volt a tivornyám!
Én miért nem ittam úgy, hogy jó-rég
Én is a pad alatt volnék?...

This is life

This life is a drinking feast.
You should drink when it's your turn.
From happiness, from deep sorrow,
From stirred wine, from its deep taste.

Those with whom I feasted,
Are mostly now under the bench,

And I, who avoided the hangover
Have sat down here and there.

But when looking back on the ruins of life, my feast was so bleak!
Why didn't I drink enough, so I also would long be under the bench?
