Machias 2010

Jeff Budz, Tommy C1 and Jim S run the Machias River in Downeast Maine. The water was low but the weather was great. Ran from 3rd Lake to Whitneyville, will need to return another year to run the whole thing.

Hey Budz, I cant wait for next year. I just bought a Old Town H2Pro for a couple hundred bucks, going to run a few small things first.........you guys look like your having too much fun.

@beercamp2004 You have got some great water to paddle up in Maine. H2Pro should be a lot of fun in the rapids. I don't recommend it for the flatwater between Lower Holmes Falls and Great Falls - that was a bear even in our quicker river tripping boats.

All of the rapids on the Machias have nice portage trails, so you can run it over and over by carrying back up. If I do the Machias next spring I'm hoping for more water that we got in 2010.

are there good hunting oppurtunities in maine- are there a lot of bears and moose- are there cool mountains and forests like inland maine- also how is the freshwater and saltwater fishing- thanks, any other advice on machias would be sweet

I wish I had known when you guys were coming. My good friends have a camp on the river, could have had a nice pit stop and a rack for a night. Lets set somthing up for 2011 on the Machias. This summer we had no water. The year before the river was full all summer. From lower Holmes falls to Smiths landing is 8.5 miles basically dead water. Hope you guys had fun.
