A very traditional Hindu christening

On the 28th day of a baby's birth, Hindus perform an elaborate christening ceremony. The rituals are mired in a strange mixture of traditions, superstitions and show of wealth. The exact time of the ceremony is arranged by astrologers. Friends and relatives are invited and the ceremeny is concluded with a traditional feast.

I was brought up in a strictly religious (Jewish) environment. But, as I got older and wiser, I rebelled against these ideas. For a time, I even went aganst Judaism. Now I do not follow any religion. No doubt, my parents are responsible for my religious scepticism.

The baby in this video is too young to remember what has gone on here. But his parents must not force their beliefs on their child because that will only alienate and drive him away from them.

It is good to follow family traditions but I agree we have to get rid of traditions which do not make sense in the modern world.
