Incidentally it is called the British army because the father of the British army was Oliver Cromwell and as is well known he was a parliamentarian, that is why it is not called the Royal army. The Royal Navy was brought about by King Henry the 8th, the Royal Marines was formed by King Charles the Second, as the Duke of York and Albany's Regiment Afoot. October 28th 1664. The accolade Royal was awarded because of their devotion to duty and because their loyalty to the crown is without question. The RM are one of the few in th British forces who are allowed to toast the Queen sitting down. The crown loves them and so do the public.............
