Well, he wrote it prior to 1980, so he was probably just thinking about how he wanted to keep all those he loved safe if you take the literal meaning... I do love this song. It came out during my chaotic teenage years and I've always loved it. He was the father I wish I had... at least until I fell in love with him! :)

i wonder if he looks back at all his friends now gone.....especially linda. it is a beautiful, yet sad song. can't help but think about it that way. i'd love to ask him that sometime. the images convey that thought. nice collage.
