There is always a chinatown in places or countries not originally occupied by Chinese and whereby there's a lot of Chinese settlers in foreign land. S'pore may have a majority of chn now but the fact remains that we (yes im chinese s'porean) are not the "original native" of the island. So what's so funny abt having chntown in Sg? Yawn.
Some of the comments here border on idiocy and a lack of Singapore history. Singapore originally belonged to the native malays but a westerner (british subject) came to the island n "cheated" the ruler by making him cede the land to him.Westerners always have a habit of colonising lands wherever they went, even if it meant by force. Natives are gullible enough to get cheated. Then chinese fr mainly southern china came in droves because of hardships in china. Hence Chntown came abt.
@caonimazibai I really despise those who say this. Singapore is not freaking part of China. We are an independent country and is located in the South East Asia. Please (re)learn Geography.

Despise ?
How would you like Indonesia and Malaysia to attack Singapore ?
Better call yourself "son of Nuclear China" so no one will dare to mess up with you !
Malaysia can kill all of you by cutting off water supply.
I am born in Singapore, you fool !
You have no idea how much i want my birthplace to be powerful.
