This was clipped from the 1959 film, Goodbye, Mrs. Ant. Before 1978, chlordane was used as a pesticide on agricultural crops, lawns, and gardens and as a fumigating agent. Because of concerns over cancer risk, evidence of human exposure and build up in body fat, persistence in the environment, and danger to wildlife, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) canceled the approval for the use of chlordane on food crops and phased out other above-ground uses in 1983. In 1988, the EPA canceled chlordane's use for controlling termites, its last approved use in the United States. While not allowed to be used in the US, the manufacture of chlordane for export is permitted and continues. To learn more about chlordane, link to http://npic.orst.edu/factsheets/chlordanegen.pdf .

  • These people probably had no idea how dangerous chlorodane was.

Yes poison is friendly, spray it everywhere.

  • You are right. Until the 1970s, consumers and workers usually knew little of the dangers. When I was a kid in the early 1960s, my friends and I used to run behind the truck fogging for misquitos at dusk - they were spraying DDT! But the industry knew of dangers and worked to keep the information from getting out to the public and to government.

  • "The slight residue and water marks are not noticeable" but the lack of breasts due to breast cancer are.

  • People would like to know that nicotine has a lower LD-50 than Chlordane.

  • i still have a bottle of this somewhere should dispose of it

  • The other day I found a gallon of liquid high strength Chlordane in the old shed.

I heard that it will hold off termites & other bugs for up to 20 years with one application.

  • you are right that nicotine is more toxic than chlordane.

thats why i wear rubber gloves when i smoke.

  • We have ppl in our neighborhoods who have cancer from Chlordane!

  • I assure you there are many things under your kitchen sink right now that are much more dangerous than chlordane. Take a look at that bottle of bleach among other things with the signal word "DANGER". Pesticides have been demonized in the media, but they have saved millions of lives, and most agricultural crops would be lost to pests without them.

  • DDT saved millions of lives from malaria when it was still in use. Millions of people have died as a result of it being outlawed by crazy environmentalists that put pressure on the E.P.A. When used by professionals, there was very little risk. This is a fact.

  • Wow, I think I read an article on 'remember the injured' about "playing in the fog". My grandma still uses chlorodane to control ants even though I told her of the dangers and that it is banned.
