check the order of the gaskets inside the water pump.. the impeller should sit on top of the gasket with the hole big enough to allow the impeller to spin. this video link explains the correct gasket order. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CitHvv9I_tc&feature=watch_response

  • Anyone doing this needs to know 1 major important detail alot of people don't show in their clips. When re-installing any of these bolts, like the one going in the trimplate or the ones holding the impeller body down, or the ones holding the foot on. USE ANTI-SEIZE on all the bolts when replacing or you may never get them out again the next time.

  • I have a Mercury 125. Is it the same as far as servicing the water pump?

  • @awesomehandsomeman Dead power pack ?

  • Make very sure you have it in neutral first!

  • my mercury black max 150hp xr2 engine runs good until put in the water, then it has no power. what can cause this?

  • Everyone knows that grease would not last 2 seconds in salt water with impeller its only for ease of installation. But I do agree how did the wiring take place. Thanks for the advice I found it helpful as a new boat owner automotive mechanice.

  • hey where did you get that part? is it available online to order of a website?

  • On top of the gaskets being replaced, the one under the water pump base should be replaced also. the plastic divider block behind the base should be cleaned and a bead of silicone applied across it before the lower unit is reinstalled

  • @editboi hello you seem educated on outboard motors. I have a question I was told I needed to change my lower unit seal, is it the seal around the water pump, or are there more seals other than those around the pump? Thanks in advance.
