I've been on the DC Metro a lot and I've only been on the New York subway once and I think the New York one is a lot more complicated! I think the DC Metro is a good model of the "perfect" rapid transit system.

Washington Metro is gorgeous, sleek modern, glowing arriving lights, no litter, clean and efficient and Quiet! The trains glide in and swoosh out with those cool glowing lights.
Superior to NYC's embarrassing, decayed system... NYC new trains are great but they're getting vandalized and they are not kept clean, too bad.

I'm a New Yorker and I agree. There's no rats, litter, or foul odors in the Metro. Trains are much faster than the NYC subway.
