Dr. Illina Berton, a veterinarian in Puyallap, Washington, who owns a small animal hospital and runs Sunny Skys Rescue, had a dream of saving a large number of animals out of high-kill shelters in Southern California and bringing them north, where their chances of adoption are almost guaranteed. With a lot of hard work and dedication by many people, and generous donations, that dream became a reality when Dr. Berton purchased an old city bus to transport the endangered shelter pets. This bus is now known as The Rescue Bus. They just completed their second rescue trip on Easter, where 70 dogs, over 10 cats and some bunny rabbits were loaded on the bus at the East Valley Animal Shelter in Van Nuys, CA, and taken to Washington to get their second chance at life and find loving, forever homes.
Just wonderful! Dr. Berton and all the volunteers deserve a special award. "What greater gift than the encouragement of kindness to animals"-REP
