(Sacramento) The Assembly Health Committee has approved bi-partisan legislation from Assemblymembers Dave Jones (D-Sacramento) and Nathan Fletcher (R-San Diego) thats necessary to help recently unemployed Californians keep their health insurance. Assembly Bill 23 will ensure Californians who lose their jobs while working for a small employer (through a layoff or other involuntarily termination) are notified they may be eligible for a 65% subsidy under the federal stimulus bill to help them pay for and keep their health insurance. It also gives those who lost their jobs on September 1, 2008 through February 16th and did not elect to continue their health insurance under COBRA the ability to seek that coverage now with a significant federal subsidy. Heres more in this Assembly Access video.
