Beginning woodworkers often start out using pine purchased at the box stores. Inexpensive but hard to finish, Charles takes you through some of the different pines and the finishing process.

  • Charles; LOL; You’re such a hoot! I never know what you’re going to say. It’s only my opinion that the TV thing would be wonderful (Ha, ha) but I understand that it is such a hassle and a nuisance and a physical strain on the ole body. You have a wonderful way of explaining and demonstrating things and you would be quite successful should you change your mind. (You’re so much fun to chat with) I truly do cherish our friendship! Where should I E-Mail for the info?

  • @56TonyT my email is charles@charlesneilwoodworkingcom

  • Hello Charles Remember me? LOL Have I missed the Video of hand cut dove tails? I think I must have missed it. You said you were working on a video on an easy way to hand cut dovetails {No router) saw and chisel. You have the best wood working videos on You Tube and you ravel Roy Underhill! When will I see you on the TV Big man? Ha, ha, ha! Love ya Brother.

  • @56TonyT Tony your unforgettable , i did the video on then dovetails , just not sure where, email me or anyone if i can help you, as to the Tv thing, too old , too fat, and dont care, no celebrities here , just us woodworkers,

  • Mr Neil, I dig your videos. Very informative. Really like that you put so much on the finish. I have been woodworking for years now ( jr high and 36 now) and it is all about the finish product. Appreciate that the old school is giving some tricks. As we really have to make this trade survive. I was blessed, working with some really talented craftsmen and it does show in my work. Functional art. Thanks again. Thumbs up buddy. Gary Vander Zwaag

  • Very informative, thanks. I really appreciate you addressing the big box options and issues since is what most beginners start with. Clear and concise stile.

  • You know before I saw this video I wasn't really frustrated by pine at all. I was purdy content being dumb and thinking everything I was doing looked pretty good. Well now I have all this new information and apparently a whole lot more to fret over. Thanks! I have one question, though. I know we've been over how pine blotches and doesn't hold stains n dyes evenly. How does a clear finish over unstained pine hold up? Does it age blotchy when it ambers over time?

  • Ok budy check you mail box :-) Your the man! ♥

  • hey, im 16 right now and im building small projects for ppl and i started building and finishing wen i was about 15 and i love ur videos!

  • I was fabricating a side table for a friend. He asked me what I was building it with. I told him pine, He said WOW if you really know what yer doin you can make it look like plywood. I still laugh everytime I think about it. The table turned out great and being PINE, it fit in perfectly. THANK Charles. I love yer stuff

  • Charles; My dove-Tail’s always have big gaping spacing all around sides and bottom and they never fill in like the videos everyone does and they always look so childish. I guess I should just accept the fact that I will never have the ability to cut dovetail and just go for the folk craft look (ROTFLMBFAO)! Charles you’re a prince and a wonderful woodworker and friend. I hope that the day will someday come that we can meet face to face someday. Eternal regards
