Louisa May Alcott's Little Women, an original dramatic adaptation of the classic novel, was presented by the Department of Theatre, Dance, and Film on March 26-28 and April 9-11, 2010 at the Angell Blackfriars Theatre in the Smith Center for the Arts.
Directed by Mary G. Farrell, professor of theatre arts, the production tells the story of the March family, with Alcott herself appearing as the catalyst to bring the characters to life. Scenes of the March girls and their 19th century New England lifestyle will give insight into Alcott's own upbringing, which was a major influence as she wrote Little Women.
Traditional music of the Civil War period was performed by live musicians between scenes.
In addition to directing the performance, Farrell adapted the novel for the theatre with Caolan Madden. David M. Costa-Cabral, professor of theatre arts, was responsible for costume design, and lighting was handled by Tim Cryan of New York, who has worked with the department on several productions over the last two years.
