ingenious! I just had a long conversation with one of my students (I am a youth pastor) who says that I am boring. However, all the other youth pastors that I know say that I am so gifted in making things interesting and fun. I was at a loss. All they seem to want is video games and hang out. If I even have a hint of learning, they get turned off. I think you have a great point in saying we should think about what we need to be in order for others to respond the way we desire

I'm a student-teacher, so I can say my opinion for both, lemme try:
- Ideal teacher: Would be very active and gentle, giving lots of oportunities for students to actually participate in class, and not only listen.
- Ideal student: Would be very keen on participating even if they make mistakes. They'll have to be inquisitive but also respectful.
Now, how do I atract that kind of student/teacher? Well, I believe I might just found my answer while I was writing this comment.
Thanks Richard-san!!1

Your enthusiasm makes me want to try it, so if I go enthusiastic like THAT into my classrooms, whatever I do will make my students WANT TO LEARN,
that's the key for being a good teacher .....put energy and love in what you do. Thanks4that!

What if your teacher is a website? (Livemocha)
Because.. I really like learning the language but it's the only possible way for me to do this online, but it's not really encouraging to go always online to take a lesson.

my ideal teacher is... not serious, teaches only what's fun and does alot of practices, no homework~ laidback and just plain fun *nods* i believe that long practices rather than short *shove-all-info-in-head* type of teaching is better much like how kids learn their first language. how to atract said teacher? money >=o

My ideal teacher, unfortunately has a hard time working within the system of the school curriculum, due solely to the fact that there is not enough time to go over both the essential core material as well as all the wonderfully interesting information that they know and would like to share. I really admire teachers who are able to be passionate about their subject and speak about all this extra information that adds interest to the subject yet still some how cover everything that the school want

I had a bad Spanish teacher. All he did was make us read from the book at first and we asked if we could do some fun stuffBut he never did. All he did was lay down a worksheet in front of us every single day and wouldn't even help us with them. Nobody took him seriously and nobody ever did their homework. He was fired at the end of the year and I didn't learn a thing. Two years beforeA teacher got fired. The year after that, the teacher left. Next teacher got fired. Our Spanish program was a joke
Richard, so does this mean that in truth, sometimes just being yourself is a bad idea?

@DaringDarkwingDuck What a very good question! It means that sometimes you have to make a choice between being your old self and maybe not getting what you want, or changing to a new you in order to get what you do want. Luckily the choice is always our own.
