African Punishment Wrestling Association (APWA) stands for Dream, Passion, Strength, Honour and Victory. What does this mean? Our slogan is explained below.
What is DREAM:
Dream, n. A strongly desired goal or purpose.
"At length in sleep their bodies they compose, And dreamt the future fight" - Dryden
The aspiration to reach the ultimate goal in the APWA and to reach one's pinnacle. The one that stands above them all holds the power, the glory and reaps the benefits of dream fulfillment. Dream is limitless and constant, the driving force behind impassioned pursuits. Every APWA competitor has a dream to seize destiny.
What is PASSION:
Passion, n. The feeling of the mind, or the sensible effect of impression; excitement, perturbation or agitation of mind; as desire, fear, hope, joy, grief, love, hatred.
"Who walked in every path of human life, Felt every passion" - Akenside
Passion defines success in APWA. It is the motivation and ingredient behind competitive excellence. Passion is limitless and is the root of a fighter's existence. During an actualisation of passion, nothing can stop the fighter but the fighter himself. With passion to achieve a dream, you focus on it like a hawk ready to attack its prey. Knowing the dream will lead you to accomplish it with unlimited passion. There are none more passionate than in APWA.
What is STRENGTH:
Strength, n. Power to resist force; solidity or toughness; the quality of bodies by which they endure the application of force without breaking or yielding.
"Each time we face our fear, we gain strength, courage and confidence in the doing"
The opposite of weakness, strength is physical and mental, figurative and literal. Strength is defined by firmness, toughness, defiance, courage, willpower and opposition. The stronger an APWA athlete is - no matter on what level - the more difficult he will be for an adversary to defeat. Strong fighters manifest energy, endurance and intensity in an inherent means, and bear startling capacity to exert force to an overwhelming degree.
What is HONOUR:
Honour, n. That which rightfully attracts esteem, respect, or consideration; self-respect; dignity; courage; fidelity; especially, excellence of character; high moral worth; virtue; nobleness.
"True, conscious honour is to feel no sin; he's armed without that's innocent within" - Alexander Pope
Honour rests upon the respect and acknowledgement an APWA fighter receives from his peers and competitors according to a set of values. Honour inspires respect and goes beyond all barriers, dwelling within us and being recognised by others. Not all APWA fighters have the same capacity for honour, and there are those who recognise honour in their own way, with a different set of values. When honour is without peer recognition, it is considered mere reputation. For those whose honour is recognised, it is the honourable who bask in adoration.
What is VICTORY:
Victory, n. The defeat of an enemy in battle, or of an antagonist in any contest; a gaining of the superiority in any struggle or competition; conquest; triumph; -- the opposite of defeat.
"A Victory without danger is a triumph without glory" - Pierre Corneille
The process of conquering or defeating; the acquisition of Dream. Victory in APWA places competitors in a class of their own and warrants triumph over good or evil. At all costs, in spite of injury and terror, however long the road may be, victory denotes the decisive, significant and spectacular conquest over an opponent. In APWA, victory is the ultimate satisfaction.
