If you push down too hard that will make you fast-fall and of course it won't work the same (if at all).

Tapping away from the ledge would probably mean that you'd use a Spin Dash to Spinshot, right? Well, that isn't as fast as the method I show here, thus making this AT worse(r? lol).
Tapping the analog is the key. And pressing B at the right time will prevent you from fast-falling (from what I've tested).
