I did this test to show how the internal temperature of the stator can increase on short ride with high power and wide open throttle. This is a ride between my neiborhood and my work (3km).

I did it with my Samsung HMX-10 HD camera with a 0.45x wide angle.

peak power of 8000W and average of 3000. max speed of 70kmh at 2850W.

The starting temp was 17 degree celsius and the end temp was 70 degree C

the Wh used was 170Wh at 56Wh/ km (1.7Ah)

Battery are 100V 23Ah lithium ion manganese DIY pack. max current was 95A and V min was 85V.

The motor case was not very warm.. i would say 35 degree C... and outdoor temp was 17 degree C.

  • Just checked the hs3540 motor out. Looks fast but it's only rated at 500watts which looks rather low to me. Compared to the other older crystalyte motors which are 2000w to 3000w watts. It also says that the hs3540 motor only goes up to 48v. Do you think that the hs3540 motor could be used up to 90v or would it burn out. If it is used with a 90v supply will the wattage go up to from 500w?

  • @webboist

Any hub motor can take at least up to 100V no prob.. Voltage is not a problem... But the current is a real limit of hub motors. I have few 250W hub motor that i push 100V in them no prob... But i wont push 100V at 50A into them.

The Crystalyte hub motor are rated 750W.. not 2000 or 3000 like some are claiming... but Yes they can take burst of 20kW

The nine continent hub motor are rated 500W and they can take 10kW burst ( few sec during acceleration) and 1500W contionuous...

  • Thanks for your reply. I see if you go onto the hobbyking website they are now doing a turnigy 10 cell 5 amp lipo battery. They also have some nice external outrunner motors the turnigy ca120-70 rated at 20hp. I am new to the ebike world in your view is it better to go with the motor in the hub or a external motor? What hub motor is currently the best and most powerful is it still the 5305 called the brute 7240 or is there something better now. Your videos are great please keep up with the

  • @webboist

The 5305 is the slowest motor of the X5300 serie ( X5 serie) but it'"S the most powerfull about torque for the same amp the controller put in the motor. The 5302 is the fastest but you need a controller that can give ALOT OF AMP to drive it in the performant range. The X5 model are 5305( slowest and most torque), 5304, 5303, and 5302( fastest and lower torque) But the production of these motor apparently stopped and they offer now the new HT amd HS serie High Torque and High Speed
