Introducing the 'DX-Demo' legacy hardware demonstrator developed by Mace Engineering Group P/L (Australia).

This is the first video in a series of demos, to illustrate the level of 'PC-compatibility of the DX-Demo system prototype. In this video, we attempt to boot Microsoft MS-DOS 6.22 and run the following early (freeware) game titles:

Alley Cat (Synapse software)
Bruce Lee (Datasoft)
Ms PacMan (Atarisoft / Namco)
International karate (System three)
Falcon 1.0 (Spectrum holobyte)
Defender of the crown (Master designer software / Cinemaware)
Test Drive 1 (Accolade)
Zaxxon (Sega Enterprises)
Elite (Bell&Braben/Realtime games Andy onions/firebird software)
Pitstop 2 (Epyx)
Street Rod 2 (California Dreams)

Final note: 'DX Demo' board is only intended to be a ('virtual hardware') technology demonstrator and not a commercial product - enjoy! :-)

  • very nice.

It seems like the pitch of the sounds/music in Alley Cat is lower than normal.

  • @CharlesBabbageJR

Correct - the frequency is around 15% lower than the sound circuit of the real thing. While we could have corrected for it by selecting a suitable external clock crystal, we instead decided to leave little 'quirks' like this in for our first video (like no electric shock sound when the cat runs into an eel for example - that's all fixed now ;-) Cheers!
