@AndrewRudin Arrogance? 4 Tonys plus two other nominations before the age of 40? Ms. McDonald has earned the right to "arrogance". She's a STAR. Some people think they rule the world. They don't. Tides change. Since when has Porgy and Bess not been altered? if Arthur Laurents or James Lapine were making drastic changes, I wonder if there would be as much uproar.

So great to see this again! He is terrifying & riveting, & she so vulnerable--& great singing. Loved this production when I happened on it on PBS in the early '90s, & have always wanted to see it again. Hard to imagine the folks up in Boston improving on this!

And THIS is the character that Audra McDonald thinks needs to be "fleshed out" and given a "back story"?! Preposterous. What arrogance to think this masterpiece needs "fixing".

@Crwthy Think we may be "stuck" with this version! As if that would be a problem! Granted this show has been done to death, but other than their incredible voices, few performers have ever looked this good at their job! Thank you so much for your comment! This one, notwithstanding the subject matter, is almost celestial!
