In fall of 2007, I was living out of a backpack at my school in Albany. After a couple weeks of hopping from couch to tunnel to apartment floor, a friend of mine introduced me to a Japanese foreign exchange student named Kensuke whose roommate had moved out and vacated a bed. He let me live with him for awhile. Kensuke was teaching himself to play classical guitar, and when he wasn't using it, he taught me some chords and let me mess around with it. The first song I learned was a simple arrangement of a cover from Death Cab's album "You Can Play These Songs With Chords."
"Wait" is a song about being disenchanted with your environment. You get tired of the routine and begin to see the smoke and mirrors, and then you stop caring. This guy who let a total stranger crash his dorm without notice or explanation taught me that your world is not a prison, and that you need only to grab your bag, open one of the many doors that were there all along, and go outside. Thus, "Wait" is a reminder to me that when you begin to believe you're stuck, it's time to pull your face out of your hands and find a door. Thank you, Kensuke.
懐かしいね。。。なんとなくこの曲を聞きたかった。ジョーさんのカーバーを見つけてびっくりした。君に会ったからラッキーだと思う。
I hope you`re playing, I took up the guitar myself largely because of you.
