I took out the old strobe ditch lights that were not prototypical and replaced them with these new wig-wag ditch lights on my HO Scale Empire Builder. The Amtrak train has two locomotives. The first has a NCE decoder, the second has a soundtrax decoder. I use digitrax for my power and control.

  • great looking layout! the operational crossing is especially impressive! what radius was that first curve in the video though? i've been wanting to get superliners for quite some time but am worried my layout's tightest curves will be too tight.

  • The tightest radius I have on my layout is 36".

  • Who makes that engine?

  • Athearn

  • but uncle chris i really like that one..

  • @prorobo 22 radius

  • i drive a Amtrak for real

  • was there diffierent crossing signals in that spot once?

  • @gunnerkillu amtrak horseshoe curve .... tons of those in the late 90s

  • how you add ditch lights

  • @casslakechris True, but only the MHCs could run ahead of the passenger cars; the Express Box Cars (such as on your model in this video) had no HEP pass-through cables so they had to run at the rear of the train. Your HO passengers wouldn't have any electricity/heat/AC! :-) Meanwhile, great crossing signals and intersection lights!

  • Very nice crossing signals!

  • that is so cool
