A classic British comedy from 1966. For some reason it was only ever released on DVD in Spain, and now it's out of print even there as far as I can tell. So until it's released...

Cast: Michael Caine, Nanette Newman, John Mills, Ralph Richardson, Peter Cook, Dudley Moore, Wilfrid Lawson, Peter Sellers, Tony Hancock

Directed by Bryan Forbes

Based on the novel by Robert Louis Stevenson

  • Thanks for this, i haven't seen it in nearly 30 years, and finally it is available on disc in the UK- I ordered my copy today. Everything about this movie was perfect: the cast, the script, John Barry's charming score- just everything!

  • I've been looking for this for years!

  • you are wonderful - to have posted this film. I have never seen it and am very much looking forward to do so.

  • This is now available on DVD from Amazon! Finally getting my own copy. Thought you might like to know....Thanks!

  • wow!

  • Stange as it may seem, you'll see echoes of both this and the book it was based on in the TV serial "Lost". At least I did.

  • 5:36 James Villiers AHOY!

  • Wilfrid Lawson Is my Nan's Uncle

  • one of John Barry's loveliest - and he had a lot of loveliests!

  • I understand this is out on DVD-I need to get it along with my other 60's films. "The Wrong Box" is hands down one of the three best comedies of the 1960's-the other two are "Bedazzled" (which just happen to have "Box" co-stars Peter Cook and Dudley Moore) and "The President's Analyst." Very shocked as to why Nanette Newman didn't get an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. This movie is a reason why 1966 was the defining year for film in the 60's ("Alfie", "Blow Up", "Seconds", etc.).

  • @HogwartsCastle All at one school - their parents each put up a share of the money. It's a Tontine ("named after Lorenzo Tonti, a Neapolitan banker", as Ralph Richardson's charactger points out several times :o))

  • Nanette Newman in her prime was the most beautiful woman ever !!!
