The 7th Cavalry Regiment is a United States Army cavalry regiment, whose lineage traces back to the mid-19th century. Its official nickname is "Garryowen", in honour of the Irish drinking song Garryowen that was adopted as its march tune.

Lyrics:
We are the pride of the army,
And a regiment of great renown,
Our names on the pages of history,
From sixty six on down.
If you think we stop or falter,
While into the fray were goin'
Just watch the step with our heads erect
When our band plays "Garry Owen."

In the Fighting Sevenths' the place for me.
It's the cream of all the cavalry;
No other regiment ever can claim
Its pride, honor, glory, and undying fame.

We know no fear when stern duty
Calls us far away from home,
Our country's flag shall sagely o'er us wave,
No matter where we roam.
Tis the gallant Seventh Cavalry,
It matters not where we're going
such you'll surely say as we march away,
When our band plays "Garry Owen."

Then hurrah for our brave commanders!
Who lead us into the fight.
We'll do or die in our country's cause.
And battle for the right.
And when the war is o'er
And to our home we're going
Just watch the step, with our head erect,
When our band plays, "Garry Owen."

Performed by the USAF Heritage of America Band.

  • My great great grandfather was at the battle of the Little Big Horn. He was with Crazy Horse. The irony was not lost on me in 1971 when the army assigned me to... you guessed it... the 7th Cav.

Whhoooo-ahhh. When it comes down to it we are all brothers of this land now. Someone once said that the WORST fights they ever saw were between brothers. Never again now they we fight together.

  • @KrazyKommieKiller L O L more murders than any other nation? dont think so,we did bad things 200 years ago but you do every fucking day.wake up,my country never used a false flag to attack other countries,we never used planes to hit towers and blame muslins countries(2001),we never sink a ship to go to war(1898),we never said:you cant use nuclear energy but me and my friends got thousand of nuclear warhead and we used against civil population(hiroshima, nagasaky 1945).we live in 21th century, pax

  • @MrKafersun Says the Spaniard, who's nation is responsible for more murders than any other nation and literally depopulated entire continents. Who's nation who hosted the longest lived openly fascist regime. A nation that doesn't realize what racism is because they regard being racist as normal. A nation with troops deployed in the very same wars you are condemning the US for. In short, shut the fuck up because you are no better if not worse.

  • @MrKafersun America, Fuck Yeah. You just gotta deal with us man sorry.

  • hi ameri-cunts,you are the most racist, fascist and terrorist country, keep your soldiers for your own borders and let the world live in peace.you are at war since 100 years ago ,you never stop to destroy countries, killing innocent people and you say that it is in the name of peace, you are fucking scumbags

  • Gary Owen Sir!

  • @MegaMushface Yes,with Custer.Garryowen is another name for County Limerick,Ireland. My mother is from there.

  • @MegaMushface In fact during the postwar area most of the regiment was formed from Irish Immigrants although a number of ex confederates also served int he regiment. The irony is the song comes from Brian Boru the Irish patriot, who was sung about when many Irishmen were drinking heavily, a different twist. Irish Immigrants were not well treated in the late 19th Century pretty much as Hispanic and other ethnic immigrants are looked down upon today.

  • To snakeman mike. The Indians resisted with their blood for the Land, as was their right and duty. Those troopers also bought some claim on the Land with their brave deaths and blood. In heaven now, all who died at LBH are honored brothers and it is sacred ground on earth below. If you are Indian or have blood of Indian, you will understand all this. You were assigned where you were supposed to be.

  • GARRYOWEN!! BLACKHAWK LEADS THE WAY!!

  • how come it sings a irish drinkin song? did many irish serve in the 7th?
