I found these guys near the volcano of Kintamani, across lake Kintamani, in a tiny village of people boasting that they were the original Balinese, & that all mythologies & religions & people of Bali descended from them. They said that they live a traditional life, except for the tourists, motor boats, money...And while taking video of the skulls of their ancestors there, one of their cellphones began going 'saturday night & I like the way you move, pretty baby...', so I had mixed feelings about these people. Anyway there's a part of their little commune that nobody can enter - & apparently they've developed it substantially - since tourists found out about the skulls of Kintamani & shell out whatever it takes. The 'original Balinese' keep their dead beneath bamboo shelters (which you can see), and allow them to rot beneath a fantastic tree thats smell really does eliminate any odor. The dead are also buried with their belongings nearby. I could take a stab at why they don't bury their dead, but I'd be guessing, really - their mythologies are so elaborate & hard to grasp.
