    According to an interview with the director(done more than 20 years after the movie was made) they are ginnea pigs. But that must be a miss translation cause they dont look like it. But its surely some other rodent than a rat.

    Can someone please tell me what type of rats they used in this film?? i mean they look a bit like(rattus norvegicus) the brown rat! but there face,s are not as cute and there noses are different,and you cant get a brown rat with red eyes! i know they are not the black rat(rattus rattus)either! i have pet rats(norvegicus) and this has been bugging me for years!
