Hockey Zone - Creasers vs Breakaway (RSHL S17 Game #1)

Well, internet spaceship hockey fans, the season has finally arrived. It was a carnival-like atmosphere as the tension built before gametime. Season 17 officially began when our fearless leader Arnk Dylie dropped the ceremonial first puck. It didn't take Creasers long to capitalize. Creasers fans wished that games could be more like Arnk in bed and last 14 seconds. If this was the case, Creasers would be 1-0 right now. Alas, Violence's goal off the opening faceoff did not fluster the veteran Breakaway squad. Doobie responded roughly a minute later off a nice assist by NINE in his Weasel. NINE got the goalie floating down and passed it up to Doobie, who beat rookie goaltender DeViL to tie the game at one.

The second period was more of a trademark Creasers game, and both teams buckled down on defense. Slartibartfast and DeViL appeared to be in the throes of an old fashioned goaltender duel. Three minutes in, though, Choke Artist (BlueGoku) broke the tie on another nice assist by a Weasel, this time by Pheef. BG beat the goalie by going bottom shelf.

Rage decided that he was unhappy with a one goal lead, and Breakaway used their double Warbird speed very effectively. Doobie got the puck ahead to Rage, who used a head fake that DeViL bit on to put Breakaway up 3-1. Two minutes later, Doobie showed great presence of mind to pass to a freshly respawned Rage, who had an open lane to the south. Breakaway continued to play excellent team defense and Slartibartfast was especially sharp for most of the third period. Another late goal by cocain essentially sealed this game. Creasers showed some life light, but it was too little, too late. Sniper Hz scored two goals, both on scrums in front of the net that Sniper emerged with the puck and managed to beat Slart.

This one could have been lopsided in favor of Breakaway, but BA had a lot of Judge shots that prevented them from really blowing this one open. There were at least four posted shots by Doobie and Rage, who definitely had the goalie beat but couldn't capitalize. This was an exhilarating 36 minutes, to be sure, and a great way to begin the season. Creasers will look to rebound on Monday the 27th in a home game against Money Corp. Conversely, Breakaway hopes to ride the momentum of their first victory next Thursday the 30th against Underdogs and get off to a quick start, unlike last season.
