I remember back in the 80's even before the hungerford killings that you had to jump through hoops to get a shotgun license. I have been away from the uk 5 yrs so what are the rules now?

@GT03235 hi as long as you have somewhere to shoot a shotgun ie farm or club you can own them ,with FAC much the same ,as long as you are in a club and done a 6 mounts probationary with the club you can have firearms ,and for vermin shooting ,and you can have a PS shotgun if your club run comps ,you can only have semi shotguns and ,22 ,any shotgun over 2+1 is on a FAC ,it is easer than people think ,its just we cant use firearms for home defense ,but thats down to twats in number 10

@GT03235 well, in my experience having gotten mine a few weeks ago, it was quite painless, small application, 1 countersignature, send it off with £50 and get a call back, policeman visits you for a bit, if ur not a nutter u get it in the post a few weeks after that :P

@AgEnT22OrAnGe because they were the only predominately white country with a modern economy that didn't have its infrastructure smashed by WWII, then the USA stole all the tec out of nazi germany and conned the British to give them info on the jet and literally hung up the phone when we asked for some info back.

not because the populous of the usa is particularly intelligent, because there are some pretty special need yanks out there.

@GT03235 shotgun licence is pretty easy, FAC is bit more difficult.

shotgun - say you want a licence for clay/vermin you'll probs get it.

FAC- rifle you need written evidence you need one, e.g. farmer or shooting club

- shotgun you have to say you need it for waterfowling or you go over seas to hunt boar ect.

-blackpowder pistols and .22-carbines also need clubs.

section 5's and 7's are no goes unless you work for defra or one of the SIS's

though there are variations by forces.

To bad you cant get a semi-automatic shotgun. I'll bet lots of people in the UK think your a terrorist or criminal for owning/shooting that thing.
