This IAC 2007 lecture discussed a range of possible options for deflecting a threatening object and outline opportunities for future research on the nature of asteroids and comets and what technologies will be needed to eventually implement effective deflection techniques.

The speaker of this Highlight Lecture was Dr William Ailor, Director, Center for Orbital and Reentry Debris Studies at the Aerospace Corporation, United States.

  • What about a very large area, massive, strong and dense net type structure that is propelled out with large rockets in order to envelop, then ultimately deflect the body out of the dangerous path? Just an idea.

  • all fart in one direction should move the earth out of danger.

  • so, the asteroids will kill us all!!!
