WINTER IN ALGER COUNTY
BIGGEST DRIFTS ON RECORD
1960'S GLOBAL COOLING!!
Scoop starts out 'down-at-the-dock' with an old buick (was it Stanley Sadak's?) parked near a 10' drift. There's the beer truck, and all the cars at Cox's Chevrolet up to their rooflines in snow! Looky thar--remember those "ZN" license plates???? Stood for Zank Negilski!!! Elm Avenue drifts are incredible...as well as Superior Street. Folks are walking two feet above the sidewalks!
Alger county pines droop to the ground with the heavy snow as Scoop makes his way down M-94 to Chatham. Look at that! 20' drifts nearly cover an entire car! There's the Chatham Lumber Company and lumber piles nearly obliterated with this incredible blizzard's blanketing aftermath!
Whooaa...is that the HIPPODROME???
Scoop takes one quick pan in downtown Au Train---there's Markles' Grocery...then he's back in Munising...snow is higher than the fences again!
WOW--there's the ole 'Sno Go'!!!! Look at that!!! Can't you just hear that thing? Remember the sound it made? Remember how the engine 'revved up' as it made it's cut into the snowbanks? Remember the line of dump trucks? Where did they take all that snow?
Where did the snow go...from the 'Sno-Go'???
Remember?????
Thanks for the wonderful memories, Scoop!!! :)
