  • Isn't comparing Gypsy to SCAL like comparing apples to cars? They aren't really the same thing. Aren't SCAL and Cricut Design Studio more similar?

  • I don't think that comparing them is apples to cars at all. The Gypsy is Design Studio in a hand held format. The goal was to talk about both of them and determine which is best for the you personally as a user. Each person has different needs and wants. This breaks the tip off the iceberg in that. This video also gives you the option of how to make SCAL as portable as the Gypsy. So really there is a lot more to it than just comparing Gypsy to SCAL. Hope that helps you understand.

  • I have the cricut design studio. I am also a graphic designer. SCAL is my choice because I can get any cricut image and covert to an svg.

Another question is are u good @ creating your own images? I have six cartridges and haven't purchases any new ones since 2006.

  • I like to get a lot of my images from free .svg sites. My husband is a great designer - me not so much. I can do some basics, but I am not happy with anything too fancy that I try to make. But that doesnt mean my possibilities aren't still LIMITLESS, even with my limited creative skills! :)

  • thnak you so much , i think i made up my mind now. thanx Marjorie

  • do you know where i can find the SCAL 2......

  • Where can I Get The Best Deal on a Gypsy?

  • Megan, I would add the issue with Mac vs PC. I'm not sure about SCAL but I know that Design Studio wasn't and as far as I know still isn't available for Macs yet. I ended up going and buying myself a Gypsy this Christmas as a gift to myself from Michaels for $129. Thanks for all your videos!

  • PLEASE help....i followed the gypsy update process and it changed my cricut firmware to 2.34. SCAL requires 2.3x. I thought this was the same but what is X since SCAL is no longer cutting? Is is possible to use the GYPSY and SCAL? I know i cant cut gypsy files with SCAL. I just want to be able to use SCAL again to cut my SVG file sI spent so long acquiring?

    thanks much.....

  • I got my gypsy for only $99 it was a great deal!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Love your videos...I own SCAL and love it...my Gypsy is in transit...lol...too bad we can't use SCAL on our Gypsy:0)....I appreciate you sharing all the pros and cons...I know I will enjoy them both for their AWESOMENESS...lol

  • Also I is difficult to see the photo on the Gypsy, so you really need to keep the book that comes with cart. So don't give away your cart after it has uploaded to gypsy.

  • exuse my terrible spelling in the prior post!!!lol

  • With SCAL is the sreen resolution that you need to have the same as with the DS? Because, I wanted to get one of those netbooks just for designing and none of the small ones in the dollar range you spoke of have the reolution needed for DS so I was wondering if the same was true for SCAL? Anyone know what I am speaking of?

  • Megan, it wasn't mentioned that it negates the Cricut warranty to use the SCAL with it.

That might be an important issue to some Cricut owners.

Thanks MUCH for the informative video!

I'm glad that another website owner promoted your site in today's email! I'll be baaack!!
