Have you ever considered doing a full length version of your special effects for this movie I really like your work! I wish I had editing software to use so I could splice your work into a DVD version, for my own viewing! I'm certain there are copyright issue which is why you haven't as of yet...sigh. Question what software did you use to make this? Any advice for an amateur on a budget?!

@blameist , that's being done, not by me, I'm just the CG guy. The software used is 3dsmax.

Hold on your trying to tell me he should build on what was there already, in order to do that he needs something to build on, this is far superior to the effects done for the film, i think he is doing the right thing by ignoring all the horrible aged effects and going for a new look 5/5 i like what i see

Your effects are so good that the interior video seems kind of.....bland. Maybe it could use some color correction (darken a bit, maybe some more red like the Klingon interiors in TMP, TWOK and TNG).

Awesome, love the "atmospheric" effect in space -- so many fanmade CG clips are way too clean... this looks more like models.

Nice, but there is no volume shadow in space. This and the excessive presence of the ship onscreen takes away all the 'space emptiness' that the original scene had, and Star Trek is also about that, feeling the empty space.

@shadoweduniverse I believe it could of been the weapon sounds that could of made that screaming sound, I could be wrong on this but that's what I think because it sounded like the typical thing you hear from most sci-fi weapon sound effects.

To say that this was very impressive would be an understatement because it is beyond impressive, I like the fact that you made the Bird of Prey rise up on to the scene instead of de-cloaking, plus the shadow like effect from the sun on the ship truly gives it that menacing look.

So welldone for doing this and to say this is worth 5/5 wouldn't do it justice I would say it worth more because every detail on the ship perfect.

Man I love that sun-smoke effect. Looks beautiful. Makes space look grimmy and dingy. Might I offer a couple of suggestions:

1. Have the BoP decloak right in front of the sun, blocking it out. Have it so the camera is down and in front of the BoP. The ship will look very menacing then.

2. Slow down the camera pans and zooms. This movie was made in 1989, before Michael Bay ruined American cinema with his ever-moving camera style of film making. Make the visuals fit the rest of the film.

@shadoweduniverse is it not part of the soundtrack? Jerry was always experimenting with different sounds, there is a bit in TMP inside V'ger where it sounds like an alien scream. I did wonder why the scream was there though when i first watched this on VHS lol. Maybe its the Klingons screaming at the original special effects.

It looks far better here than it did in 1989. Great job. The bean counters at Paramount were way too cheap then.

The only problem with this is that the disruptor's rate of fire suddenly changes between the closeup of the barrel and the shots streaking towards the probe; the latter has them grouped way too close together. The way it's shown in the original (and the way the sound effects work) suggests it's a slower-but-stronger weapon, not a machine gun. The actual visual quality is very good, and the cinematography itself, the camera angles and lighting, is very dramatic.

The original effects were very poor and it's hard to believe the original special effect company spent as much to produce bland results. I'm really impressed with your new footage and I appreciate you replacing Voyager. But what was the idea of the space probe's scream (I assume this was in the original)?

I've always wondered this - why does the satellite "scream" when the torpedo hits it? :P
