Featured is the Farbige Wasserlichtkonzert (coloured light water concert) in the park known as ''Planten un Blumen'', which means plants and flowers. The park name is written in a form of German known as Hamburg Platt. The area was originally used for an international garden show (IGA), which we believe was in the 70's, and features a rose garden, tropical greenhouses, Japanese garden, lakes, cafés, and an extensive children's play area. The park is close to many conference and exhibition halls which are within walking distance of the town centre and a mainline train station (Dammtor). The origins go back before 1930. In 1930 the then zoological gardens were converted into a peoples, bird and recreation park. From 1934 to 1935, the well-known garden architect, Karl Plomin, redesigned the park for the Niederdeutsche Gartenschau (...garden show).
The times of the concerts, which usually take place every day around 10pm in the main season, are on the website: www.plantenunblomen.hamburg.de - from 1st May to 31st August, around 22.00 hrs and from 1st to 30th September, around 21.00 hrs - times could change.
