to the idea of romantic imagery, it's true that this is spiritualistic talk and lots of samurai would probably of discounted this as poetic imagery but to many samurai of more aesthetic principles this would be absolutely true. this is not my thought, its in the book 'Sword and Brush' by David Lowry, a Yagyu Shinkage swordsman, it was recommended by my tai chi master who also trained in a traditional sword style in japan and has started his own school, Naikan Tai Chi.

@TKane001 give me a break. Bushido does not mean samurai. and fanciful quotes and romantic images of all samurai are slightly silly.

Excellent, wonderfull video
He was slightly off in what the sword means to the Bushido (Samurai).
To understand the meaning you have to look at the kanji character of the sword. It shows both the character 'edge' and 'combining'. The Sword is two. Its twin personalities as a work of art and a deadly edge cannot be expressed as one or the other, they are always entwined. The same applies to the samurai.
The sword and the Bushi share the same soul and as the sword reflects the Bushi, the Bushi reflects the sword.
