And even if that was the case, maybe if we were harder on people who abuse animals, they wouldn't be on the street to kill and abuse other people? There is plenty of research that shows a solid and undeniable connection between the violence that people do to animals---they do the same to humans, too.

@afb1224 We're desensitized to human death because of the millions of animals who are violently slaughtered in this country and others around the world. And what does what Michael Vick did have to do with your sibling getting killed? What he did was as bad as killing a human. One that has no opportunity to protect itself, run away, or have anybody else protect it from the torture Vick dealt. I hope I live to see Michael Vick die slowly, alone, and in pain.

When have we forgiven the torture of the innocent and vulnerable? What kind of people would forgive that. If we are going to "use" dogs as great companions, then we are obligated to care for them at our highest level of ability, not view them as disposable and "less than."
