Ethnic clashes in Bulgaria leave five injured

http://www.euronews.net/ Five people, including three police officers, have been hurt in clashes between Bulgarians and members of the Roma community.




The fighting broke out in the village of Kanunitsa 160Km south of the capital Sofia.




It started after a Roma man driving a van, ran over a young Bulgarian in what some villagers thought was a deliberate action.

FACT: the boy was ran over after a short quarrel on the street, with the rich roma family.

FACT: After he was pushed with the van, his father ran out, hit the van yelling: STOP! STOP! Howerver, instead of stopping the driver PUSHED THE GASS!

FACT: The rich roma family declared a death threat OPENLY the day prior to the accident, the bulgarian family reported to the police, no action was taken.

As a bulgarian I can say that the riots were not based on ethinc issues at all. The problem was the Rashkovi family - the 'king' gypsy family, They are involved in various illegal activities, such as robery, illegal liquor production, prostitution, etc. They have connections everywhere and it always seemed they are untouchable. When that boy from Rashkovi killed that poor guy, the people from Katunica (gypsies and bulgarians) could not take it anymore and raided and occupied Rashkovi's.
