This song was written by Chris Cornell for the 1991 Soundgarden album 'Badmotorfinger'. It was covered by Johnny Cash on the second American Recordings album, 'Unchained', in 1996. This is an interpretation of Cash's version. The simplicity -even though it's far from simple- and basic nature of the chugging rhythm struck me as even more powerful than the stomping riff and interesting time signature changes in the original.

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers backed Johnny Cash during the recording sessions for 'Unchained' and someone told me the other day that this haircut made me look like Petty. I don't see the resemblance, but I'm sure there's a coincidence in there somewhere.
