Listening to the Super BOWL

Couldn't key the mic, because I don't got enough power going into the radio. Heard a lot of skip from all over the US today. 1/20/10 And the DX is only going to get better! Mr. Prime Minister was coming in loud and clear from Washington. I'm located in Southwest Missouri... 527 RedRock

how can you tell if you are having a skip conversation

Well, usually I can tell if the signal is real faint, or is changing strength. Sometimes there is a distortion in the signal coming across so the people talking sound kind of funny. Most of the time though if you hear someone say their name or number and then state their location. For Example: RedRock 527 here in southwest Missouri, come on back! If you hear locations far away from yours that is most likely skip. Some people just don't believe it at first!

@Bulletsrain how do you talk on superbowl channel. is it ok if you can give me a tip how to start a skip conversation over the cb radio like what would i say to let them know i want to talk to them. should i say like my handle a number my location and say something else? please respond

Yea pretty much, you can say what ever you want. I usually do something along the lines of: 527 here in Southwest Missouri looking for a comeback, or RedRock 527 here in Springfield, Missouri on this nice sunny day! You can really say anything, and if someone hears you they will try and match contact with you. But sometimes you can't even hear half the people trying to talk back to you!

what kind of base do you have and antenna?

@bmxingtravis I have a President Washington and a Cobra Cam 89 as base radios. Right now I just have a wire dipole, but very soon I am going to order an Imax 2000

No I didn't talk, I have before though, but with a different radio. Thanks for the info though! I don't sit any more in the garage now that I have a base radio

Hopefully you didn't talk inside your garage...  U will fry your radio doing that..
