The County Grand Orange Lodge of Glasgow left Glasgow Evangelical Church in Cathedral Square at 9.30am on 4 July 2009 to start off the annual Boyne Celebrations.
Here they are accompanied by the Blackskull Fifes and Drums - as always, immaculately presented and with impeccable musicianship.
The first clip shows the Lodge leaving Cathedral Square. The second shows the walk progressing along Cochrane Street towards George Square where the wreath will be laid at Glasgow's War Memorial.
I've never been to the actual start of an orange walk before. Once everyone had gathered outside the church the drum major called the band to order and they played Bethany [Nearer my God to Thee]. This was played simply and beautifully by the flutes in harmony with the percussion only coming in to gently round off the tune. When the music started a silence fell over the gathering which was so deep you could have touched it. Some people started singing the words, quietly and from memory. I found this simple little ceremony - so far removed from the boisterous drums and banners to come - quite moving.
the blackskull truly are an amazing band such nice suits impressive drumming and fluting well organized the sound of them coming down the road is awesome great tune at the end very similar to milatary music great capture there roughgrange :)
