Please, first thing to do before playing guitar : verify it's tuning ! If you wanna play some Billy Idol songs, add more distortion. And, I don't blame you, but find a guitar teatcher, you will gain a lot of time. He will also make you understand how to set your amplifier properly, and you will get a much better sound too.
