Senator Wayne Morse of Oregon who along with Senator E. Gruening of Alaska were the only two Senators to vote against the Vietnam war no congressmen voted against it.
Senator Morse was the original maverick Senator he was a two term Republican then after Nixon was selected to be Vice President he bcame an independent for 1 term then he was a democrat for 3 terms. Other congressmen and senators later turned against the war or were elcted later on planks of anti-war but the only originals who were against from the very beginning were Morse and Gruening

Morse was also a man of courage. We still suffer from our invasion of Viet Nam.

Alternative was total war; invasion. China didnt intervene in Korean War until they saw MacArthur's army thundering towards their border. Its not unreasonable to think they would have intervened again, in Vietnam, if they had seen Westmorland's army doing the same thing.
Say an invasion of N. Viet began in '66; PRC had nukes by then, which they didnt have in '51.
Why not? 1 bomb, 1 army. No battles. Americans vaporized.
Even Schwarzkoff was worried about a nuke strike on his army in '91.

Yes but fighting a war with your hands tied behind our back,(as the US soldiers were) is disgraceful.
Even good things came from the nazi experiments.Did we really have to go that far to improve the world?

Things twisted very much. Democrats were a very southern party until the 1970's. They were the party of the Segregationist and the Racist, the "Dixiecrats". But things have changed and position are now on the opposite.
