@Umpqua1012 Yes. The fog signal in the roof of The Needles Lighthouse was replaced by tyfons, which were removed when it was automated. Another one with horns like pendeen was Lundy (South) and Dungeness (Low)
And yes, South foreland did have those horns, and was a major testing site for fog signal equipment - as you may know, many experiments for radio and lighting also took place there.

I found an old photo of Needles; and strangely enough; it had fog sirens coming out the roof!

@WorldWideLighthouses South Foreland had one of those sirens?
-
@Umpqua1012 As did Longstone and South Foreland, many years ago.
-
@WorldWideLighthouses Skerries had those sirens like on Pendeen too.
-
@Umpqua1012 Yes. They seem like they were quite a popular choice, but the horns used at lizard were also used quite a lot, at lighthouses and on lightships such as Pendeen, Lundy North, Lizard (Bardsy, i think), and south stack many years ago.

@WorldWideLighthouses They must of loved using those ice cream cone shaped sirens back in those days! They were installed at Nash Point; Flat Holm; South Bishop; Alderney; Whitby; Souter Point; Flamborough; and North Stack!
@umpqua1012 I think i am right in saying that those two were the only test sites, but it wasn't the only light to not be automated that was pulled from service! Theres Spurn, The range lights on Portland Bill, St Agnes etc.
