all i can say from my point of view you cant have 2 things in your heart at one time so either pick halal (quran-no music) or controversial matter that could be haram ( music-)

It is reported regarding Hazrath Umar (R.A.) that if he heard the sound of a duff he would immediately send somebody to investigate. If it was found to be the occasion of a Walima, he would not do anything. Otherwise he would go for his whip (i.e. he would forcefully stop the playing of the duff) (Fathul Qadeer - Vol. 6, Pg. 389).

When Umar (Radhiallaahu Ánhu) heard the sound of beating drums, he would send a person to inspect the occasion. If it was a Nikah (which was being announced by means of the drum) he would keep quiet. Otherwise, he would punish those involved. (Fathul Qadeer)

I know there's a difference in opinions concerning music and I'm sure that valuable scholars when they issued they different fatwas, they've done it after thorough researches. None of us here can deny the other opinion.
However, myself prefer to avoid listening to musical instruments, I do not know who's right and who's wrong but I've read a nice fatwa that there's more taqwa when you avoid something that may or may not be halal. So why not miss this opportunity ! Allah Knows Best !

I'm back so Abou Mâlik Al Ach' ari brings back that the clairvoyant Mouhammad that peace is on him said: ' There will be among my community which will consider the wine, the pork, the silk (for the men) and musical instruments as lawful so if they make it "lawful"(instruments) it means that it was not lawful it is mentioned in surat luqman v6 I think salam !

Salam to all brothers and sisters...
Sheikh Ahmad Kutty, a senior lecturer and an Islamic scholar at the Islamic Institute of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, states:
Music is an issue that has been hotly debated by scholars of the past and the present. While many of them have been generally inclined to condemn all forms of music, with the singular exception of ad-duff (tambourine) in weddings quite a few of them have taken a more positive approach of considering only music containing sensual, pagan, or unethical themes or subliminal messages as being categorically forbidden.
The latter view seems to be more consistent with the general nature of Islam, which is undoubtedly a complete way of life that caters to all of the genuine human instincts and needs within permissible limits Thus, to say that all music is forbidden in Islam does not seem to agree with the balanced approach of Islam to issues of human life and experience.
Traditions often cited by the first group scholars to justify condemnation of all musical instruments and music, according to some scholars, are considered as either spurious, or phrased in such way solely because of their associations with drinking, dancing, and sensuality While everyone agrees that all forms of music that contain pagan, sensual themes, or subliminal messages are clearly forbidden, the latter group of scholars considers all forms of music free of such themes and messages as permissible.
As a matter of fact, we know from the authentic traditions that the Prophet (pbuh) not only allowed music in the weddings but also listened to girls singing While listening to girls singing on such an occasion, he interrupted them only once when they sang the following verse, In our midst is a Prophet who knows what will happen tomorrow; whence, the Prophet (pbuh), told them.."Cut this sentence out, and continue singing what you have been singing earlier"..There is nothing in the sources to indicate that the above permission is limited to the occasion of wedding, as some people tend to think
In light of these, according to the last mentioned group of scholars, music that is deemed to be free of un-Islamic and unethical themes and messages, the same is true of musical instruments so long as they are not used for the above, have been considered as permissible.
But we have to stress that Islam clearly prohibits mixed dancing of males and females.
May Allah bless you all...
Assalamualaikum W.W.

  • In Islam we all know that alcohol is haram. It is clearly stated. On the other hand music is highly debated and it is not clear cut

It is in the grey area. It is how you deal with the grey area that distinguishes what type of person you are

Some people are stronger in their faith than others. Some have large grey areas and others do not, but if you are not sure about a certain rulling, than be honest with yourself and analyze to see if Music is keeping you away from other important things

  • seriously this is the best comment i have read that puts the issue of music to rest

  • many people who comment on halal and haram - dont even know the manners of conducting themselves in the toilet/bathroom. Thats why filth comes of thier tongues. If you dont have authority in religious sciences - safer to remain silent . Scholars of the past have difference in opinion on this matter so we should respect that
