Sorry for all the poor video quality; trying to fiigure it out!! Sarah & Greg joke around with some people who were at the WGA Strike @ The Fox Studios on Friday Nov. 9th, 2007.
Sad but true; it IS about the dough-re-mi with those writers. It's mostly a game. When their strike is over, the other unions will take their turns. The most union-obsessed people in the industry seem to be the ones who rarely attend film festivals. Their love is for money not love of film. I met a filmworker in LA. He's crewed on 38 features but has only seen 5 of them. He prefers drinking and jet skii'ing.
if the average salary is 5000 for a wga member, then most of the strikers must write as a hobby and have other source of employment. It's a shame that those hobbyist can shut down tv shows staffed by working crews who actually have careers in the film business. it sucks we have to suffer.
I gave up on saying anything that could get the writers to come back. If making money is the only reason they're in the business, it explains a lot. I've moved on, lot more interesting diversions working with people who are artistically motivated.
Man It hurts to see how things havent changed since the days when we had to enter the backdoors of resturants and stores. I hope they are going to make provisions for more diversity.
$5,000? Those might be WGA members who are in their first year and that $5K was for writing a skit for SNL. Not bad coin for a few night's work on hi-octane coffee..
I watched Conan's opening monolog last night. It was pathetic. He had nothing top comment on about current events so he just killed time by doing silly light show & music with the band. In the circus we call that a "stall". Lame!! All I can figure is that Conan is trying to prove to the network that they need the writers back.
Back in the mid-90's I worked in the SF film industry. A shoot with Bill Cosby and another with Spike Lee got moved back to LA & NYC because they couldn't find enough black crew members to work.
I hope the WGA increase their Monority Writers memberships, because from my experience working on set they are very few minority cast and crew members. :(
Ah, miss the good ole days when we'd leave these pinko union hacks in the river...Oh well, at least Leno, Conan & Jimmy Kimmel have the backbone to face down WGA greed.
