The story of how we got the Bible is interesting. Rev. of John or Peter?, Acts of Paul and Theccla, Apol. of Peter, Acts of Peter etc. The Gospel of Thomas and the Gospel of Peter were (as some have claimed) early christian works, as in mid 1st centuary works.

So much of what we understand as the Bible came from the early church fathers understanding of the faith.

Luther tried to leave out James BTW.

@jfrontier1 Yes, my brother, James is an interesting book, I have heard many an opinion on this book. some say that it conflicts with romans, But in my study, I find God to be more awesome! and enjoyed reading Luther, and Justin Maryty!

We actually read through much of these in seminary, and I still have quite a few books from this time period.

Many teach on the Gospel of Nicod. yet do not even know it (Jesus descent into Hell to save the Fathers of the faith for example).

Remember however that during the time of Ignatious and Ireneous (can not spell) the "church" had put together much of the Bible. Marcion cannon lists most of the Bible as we know it (at least when he agreed with it).

@GluteusIlluminatus Yes Glute, they did leave out some books. Some of them were unverifiable to their authorship, sometimes because they contradicted the understanding of other books. I think the point of the video was to say that some of the books outside of the recognized canon are legit, or at least reenforce the idea of what was popular thinking at the time.
