Second of two video previews of "Blues Harmonica Play Along Sessions," a new upload at Modern Blues Harmonica. This is a cooperative venture between the Hills Blues Collective (a Dutch blues band) and Adam Gussow (USA). The eleven tracks include every important urban blues groove (swing, shuffle, rock, rhumba, boogaloo, funk, and slow blues). Gussow contributes a one-hour video tutorial in which he shows you how to extract maximum value from each track.

  • That sounds like fun...how do I get it?

  • There's a link in the extended description of the video.

  • Thanks Adam. Yeah it was pretty simple and I'll try not to be such a baby from now on. I downloaded as I said I would and listen people, get off your duff and shell out the 12 bucks. It's such a bargain and so helpful it will blow your mind. I mean what the hell, what is that two lattes or something? You're not serious about improving (and supporting one of the most giving people I know of) if you don't. And here's the best part: He's not wearing the fern shirt! (said with deep affection).

  • That fern shirt is my friend, buster. The two of us have been many places. In fact, he tells me which notes to play. I owe it all to Ferny.

  • Adam, would it be possible to tab out that James Cotton/Sonny Boy lick you play on the Shufflin Apples track? That is so freaking tasty. I know we should try and work it out ourselves but we novices aren't great at that sort of thing. I think it would help 'move the merchandise' :-) I know I'll buy the download the moment I know how to play that. I want to play it LOUD over and over until the neighbors appear at the door with pitchforks and torches. Please,,,just one more 'blandishment'?

  • Aw, can't you figure it out? It's a repeated three-note figure, a triplet figure, but you start it on the third beat, so that the second note is the downbeat.

    4b / 4d / 3 d

    a...ONE...a

The 4d "moves," in pitch terms, as you play it. It dives. You hit it with no bend, then immediately pull it down in the split-second you play it.

    Good luck!

  • Hey Adam,I first picked up a harmonica back in the 80s,but I was just a dabbler until about 3 years ago, when I started getting serious about this wonderful instrument.Thank's for your video's they have helped me greatly.Your a great teacher!I read some of your bio before, and saw that you bought your first harp in Nanuet.Im from Poughkeepsie.

  • :)

  • Why do you think the harmonica is such a magical instrument? What is it that tugs at my insides when I hear it...such a simple instrument...yet it has such power and influence. I guess it may be because it's such a cheap instrument and the guy who has the blues and is flat on his ass can have one, so we've had years of hard-times and blues voiced on them

  • you sound great !!!

  • Ok, then, I'll definitely have to find a D then, because I don't quite have the skill yet.

    Thanks. :)

  • Hey how'd you know my name was Buster? That's spooky.

  • Hi Adam.. You're doing great stuff.. And you are one of the few channels I display on my page as other useful harmonica ppl..

One thing that I would ask/suggest for you to do, that would immensely make your videos much more assessable, would be to write the key Harp you are using 1st thing in the about the video or title..

Anywho.. Happy Harping! And Happy Halloween!!

    Mike
