A podcast covering a few past GCSE german speaking role plays.
Transcript:
Hey guys Im Matt and welcome to my first podcast about GCSE German speaking exam. Ive been studying German for about 7 years now and Im hoping to study it at university soon. I was looking through the podcasts on Itunes the other day and I noticed that there werent really many about GCSE speaking revision in German, so I thought Id make some podcasts to help anyone doing their GCSE in German at the moment. What Im going to do is go through a couple of past GCSE German speaking exams that are in the form of role plays. After Ive finished Ill go through any vocab (vocabulary) that you may not know, and Ill give some pointers on how you can improve or lengthen your answers.
Ok so Ill start with Role play 9- Youre in a German restaurant with your family and youre not happy with the food. The second problem is the waiter. You speak to the manager to complain.
•!- (When you see this, you will have to respond to something which you have not prepared.) In this case its- Können Sie den Kellner beschreiben? (Can you describe the waiter?) Er ist groß und hat braune Harre.
•And the last one is- Lösung- dein Vorschlag.
Ok, now for the vocab:
The first bit- Das Essen ist kalt und schmeckt nicht gut. (The food is cold and doesnt taste good.)
Das Essen- the food, as you can tell Das means its neuter
kalt- cold
schmeckt, comes from schmecken- to taste, so it doesnt taste good.
(Id like to complain about the waiter.)
Ich möchte- I would like (to)
beklagen- comes from sich beklagen- to complain, its reflexive, so the sich become mich in the I form, and that needs to come as soon in the sentence as it can. So in this case its- Ich möchte mich über den Kellner beklagen.
Ok, then its Können Sie den Kellner beschreiben? (can you describe the waiter?)
Er ist groß und hat braune Haare
groß- tall or big
braune Haare- brown hair
You could also have said:
unhöflich- rude or unhelpful
langsam- slow
The last one- Lösung- dein Vorschlag
Die Lösung- solution
Der Vorschlag- suggestion
I said- Kann ich mein Geld zurück haben bitte?- can I have my money back please? And thats quite a good template sentence because you can just replace Geld with anything. So it could be Kann ich meinen Ball zurück haben bitte?- can I have my ball back please? Anything like that.
Or I also said Kann ich mein Essen umsonst haben?
umsonst- free of charge
kostenlos- free of charge
gratis- free of charge
Ok, now Im going to move on to a different role play. This one is Role Play 12- Youre talking to your Austrian friend about your recent house move.
•And now comes the question which you dont know !- in this case its Was ist nicht so gut in der Stadt?- whats not so good in the town?
Die Stadt und die Luft sind schmutzig. Or you could say Es gibt zu viel Verkehr in der Stadt.
Ok, vocabulary:
The first bit- Wann und wo?- (when and where?)
am zehnten November- tenth of November
umgezogen- come from umziehen- to move (house)
The second bit- Neues Hause- zwei Details (new house- two details)
groß- which we said before meant big or tall
bequem- comfortable
Das Haus ist auf dem Land- the house is in the country
You could also say Wir haben einen tollen Garten- we have a nice (great) garden.
And then Freizeitaktivitäten in der Stadt- zwei Details (free time activities in the town- two details)
Man kann in die Disko gehen- literally: one can go in the disco (one can go to the disco)
Fußball spielen- play football, Der Fußball- football and spielen- to play
And then the unexpected question (Was ist nicht so gut in der Stadt?- whats not so good in the town?)
Die Stadt und die Luft sind schmutzig
Die Stadt- the town
Die Luft- the air
schmutzig- dirty
I also said Es gibt zu viel Verkehr in der Stadt
Es gibt- there is/ are
Zu viel- too much or too many
(Der) Verkehr- traffic
Or you could say zu (viel) Lärm- too (much) noise
Ok that completes my podcast for today I hope its helped in some way, and I hope that Ill do some more soon.
Thanks, goodbye!
-please let me know if this podcast is any good and whether it would be helpful to do more!
