Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit/Clean Downtown Workers received a special photo opportunity with the Stanley Cup July 7, 2008 at Hockeytown Cafe. Christopher Ilitch, President & CEO, Ilitch Holdings, Inc., Lorna G. Utley, President and CEO, Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit and a Clean Downtown employee gave remarks. With several businesses downtown, the Ilitch companies directly benefit from the tireless efforts of the Clean Downtown program, which launched in June 2006 and employs individuals receiving occupational training and career assistance from Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit. In addition, Clean Downtown crews played a critical role in cleaning the streets and sidewalks following the 2008 Stanley Cup victory parade and rally. The Clean Downtown program has kept downtown looking its best for millions of visitors and has removed 300 tons of trash, steam cleaned 39 miles of sidewalks three times and power swept 18 times. There are many success stories to report. Workers have: reunited with families, regained custody of their children, remained drug-free and crime-free, pursued education, achieved self-sufficiency and moved to independent housing.
