This short clip offers a simple solution to making sure the squares in your woodworking shop are square.

In woodworking, working in the square is soooooooo important. Their are many woodworking projects that end up in the junk pile because pieces and parts don't fit. They don't fit because they weren't square.

Happy Woodworking and be Safe

  • I don't know if you can get enough accuracy using pythagoras here. A half degree is a lot, but wouldn't be detected measuring this way. I take 4 squares off the retail rack and stack them up to make sure they're all the same. Then I position them all with their corners together. If they all fit tight and with no gaps, you've got four good ones. Buy one.

  • Pythagoras told us this; I think.. Good stuff Charles.

  • so simple, yet true. On some older squares, you'll see where they may have been "punched" or "reset" to square. At the outside heel a punch can close it. on the inside corner, it will open it. My father used to do this, after checking the square, and finding it needing adjustment. I am sure you know this as well as trueing a level. It is always the basics. I am very glad to see all the things you so willingly share. Thank you so much, once again.

  • if you have a older square make sure the edges aren't worn down, or your not square.i did it
