  • you can also take one stirdy pole, and hammer it in the ground. Then what you do is drill a 2 holes, 1 inch apart, through the top of your grave, not very noticeble. Then you take your string, twine, or skinny rope and tie the grave to the pole and really titen it and you have a standing grave without the 2 noticeble stakes on the sides!

  • I use to do that, however, there is no lateral stability with this technique. Consequently, the wind will twist the stone out of position. Also, the 1" gap between holes is not enough support and the cord or wire will eventually dig into the foam, causing it to rip out in high winds.

Wrapping string over the entire body of the stone prop renders better support, & less damage to the prop. We had 60+ mph winds the other day. Still standing !

  • Thankx for your comments ! Indeed it does make more difficult for graveyard thieves. We have a lot of wind out here in the desert SW, this seems to be the best resolution.

    Best regards,

  • Thats a really good, non-permanant way of anchoring your tombstone into the ground. It's also good for not ruining it, and for those vandals out there to not get it out as easy.

    Great idea!

  • instead of using a straight stick for anchors use some trimmings from a bush outside in your front yard, it gives it the old look you need and you can easily wrap the string around it

  • This is working well!

  • I know one year I had put my tombstones and it stormed and some got damage and blow away. Wisconsin weather is unpredictable it drives me nuts and not just with Halloween decorations Christmas decorations also!

  • Great idea!!! I have about 30 of these tombstones, but I always hate putting them out (Wisconsin fall weather is so unpredictable) because they either blow away or tip over because the little metal rods they come with are so flimsy! This is a wonderful way to secure them. Thanks for the idea!

  • Is that fishing wire monofilament?

  • I am soo using this tip this year for my halloween haunt.

  • nice idea. I do dowels in the bottom. and then stick a cut up coat hanger through the stone from the back to the front bend it up on the front side of the stone. then on the back bend an L shape down to the ground. The L gives it some spring.works up to 35mph winds.
