Collaboration and effective use of enterprise architecture were key elements of the Virginia Dept. of Education's (VDOE) recent successful grant application. According to Bethann Canada, Director of Information Management, VDOE, the assistance received from the Virginia Information Technologies Agency (VITA) facilitated creation of a much more powerful entry, which recently was awarded a $17.5 million grant by the U.S. Dept. of Education. VDOE's Longitudinal Data System will be enhanced with the grant funds to more effectively link disparate databases from K-12 schools, universities and workforce systems -- yet produce seamless results for users. The funded system is expected to reap immediate and future benefits for multiple state entities and citizens. The Virginia award is one of 20 grants awarded out of 52 submissions nationwide. VITA provided project management and technical expertise to the grant writing team and effective enterprise architecture methodology to the system development team.
